Cradled in the Himalayas, abode of Hindus, Buddhists and living goddesses, Nepal has a rich culture and geography. The mountainous north includes eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on earth, Mount Everest.

Nepal is truly a land of spectacular and beautiful contrasts, from the high snow-capped Himalayas to verdant tropical lowland jungle, with fertile terraced foothills between. Medieval towns and villages, treasure troves of culture and tradition, lie sheltered in this dramatic landscape.
The Kathmandu Valley has 7 World Heritage sites including the ancient towns of Bhatgaon, Patan and Kathmandu, the BuddistStupas ofSwayambunath and Boudhanath, and the Hindu temples of Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan. In the hills that surround the valley are Dhulikhel and Nagarkot, tranquil retreats where breath-taking sunrises and sunsets play across a Himalayan panorama.

To the west picturesque Pokhara is dwarfed by the majestic Annapurna Himal, with the peak of sacred Machupuchari towering over the town. Here there are opportunities from leisurely walks and boating on Lake Phewa, to trekking into the foothills to higher altitudes.

In the south the terai (jungle lowlands), including Chitwan National Park, are home to many indigenous animals and birds that live in the diversity of ecosystems. Explore the trails and rivers through sub-tropical Sal forest, across lush grassland and around flood plains and ox-bow lakes by elephant, canoe, jeep or walking safaris.

Activities in Nepal include leisurely exploration of ancient towns and historic sites, wildlife safaris, more adventurous trekking in the foothills and exhilarating white water rafting on rivers that flow from the high mountains.

Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) when the weather is generally mild and clear are the best times to visit Nepal.
